What to wear for my headshot? | NJ Business & Brand Photographer

It's hard enough to be in front of the camera, but to also have to figure out what to wear? Fashion SOS! We all need some help me pick an outfit that makes us feel AMAZING and reveal our inner rockstar. So I asked the expert for some styling advice.

My gal pal Simply Chic Styling offers her fashion wisdom on what to wear for your Power Portrait (Headshot) photo shoot. Get ready to strike a pose and stand out!

Wear something in a color that reflects who you are!  A top in your favorite color that enhances your complexion or a shade that brings out the color of your eyes are great choices.  Avoid white/cream if you have fair skin because it will make you look pale in your photo.  If you love prints, go for it!  Just be sure that the print is subtle and not overpowering.

Consider the neckline of the top you're wearing and avoid blouses that are too low cut or too fussy (ruffles for example) - both of which will be too distracting.  A moderate V neck or U neckline are safe bets.

-Silk blouse
An easy to wear silk blouse is a great choice because it creates softness with the flowy fabric and will fall nicely around your upper body and mid section if you're sitting for your headshot.

If you love to wear dresses, please wear one!  There's nothing more feminine and sophisticated than wearing a dress.  Just be sure that it fits perfectly.

Your feet will not be captured in the photo but please wear good shoes!  Shoes that you feel amazing in because it will make a difference in your posture.  Pumps are always a good choice.

Avoid sweaters for your photo because it makes the picture too season-specific.  Next summer, when you pull out your headshot to use for a business event, you don't want to be shown wearing a turtleneck sweater while it is steaming hot outside.  You can always change once you arrive at Blow In Blow Out.

Gone are the days of the stiff corporate headshot where everyone wears a navy blue suit - thank goodness!  Mallika is exceptional at capturing the essence of her clients so don't be afraid to wear something that reflect your personality.

If you're trying to decide between a couple of outfit choices, put them on and take selfies in good lighting.  Sometimes it's helpful to see yourself in the outfits and then the decision will become much more clear!
