How to Create a Follow Worthy Instagram | NJ Brand Photographer
We talk a lot about visual storytelling around here, so it should come as no surprise that Instagram is one of my favorite platforms for visually connecting with others. If your goal is to use images to form a deeper relationship with your target audience, Instagram is THE place to be. Why? Because the platform is all about visual content. There is no need to muddle through a lot of clutter, wordy content, and an over-abundance of links. With over 800 million users, Instagram is a simple and effective way to shine a light on your brand, your products, and your story.
To assure you’re taking full advantage of this powerful platform for your business, we’ve gathered a few tips to help you create an Instagram account that is truly follow-worthy:
1) Switch to a business profile. To immediately establish your brand as legitimate in the Instagram world, you must set up your profile as a business. The advantages are plentiful. They include the ability to:
Add specific information about your company such as business hours, your location, your phone number, etc.
Get real-time metrics on how your stories and promoted posts perform throughout the day.
Get insights into your followers and how they interact with your posts and stories.
2) Select a killer profile image. Instagram is about people, and users are going to be drawn to you before they are drawn to an image of your product or logo. Because of this, Instagram is the perfect location to highlight the face of your brand — you! Choose a high-quality photo that is clear and true to your brand. It’s a great idea to use an image that is similar to your other social media profile images so that you become easily recognizable across your various platforms.
3) Craft your bio. A commonly overlooked but oh-so-important component of a follow-worthy instagram account is the bio. This is the place where you are able to make a great first impression by showcasing your personality. Your bio needs to explain who you are and what you do, convey your brand’s unique personality, and use targeted language to show your ideal audience that they have come to the right place.Think of it as your virtual handshake! With a mere 150 characters, you’ll need to be intentional about how you’ll use this small space.
Here are a few tips to create a bio that your audience will connect with:
Optimize your username + name. Your username is how other accounts can tag you. This, as well as your actual name, are searchable in the Instagram search field. Make sure to use them wisely!
Answer clearly what your business does. Don't be too creative. Simplicity wins when it comes to Instagram every time.
Give visitors a reason to follow you. Let them see a glimpse of the value you bring to the table.
Let your unique personality shine. Have fun, be clever, and be YOU. Use emojis to bring color and fun to your bio.
Use clickable links. Be strategic with this because it is the only opportunity on Instagram for links. We are talkin’ prime clickable real estate!
Include a call to action. Be sure to show your followers the clear path they can take to become a client.
