Brand Photos for Leeza Hernandez, Artist and Illustrator | NJ Brand Photographer
Leeza Hernandez is an artist, designer, and illustrator whose joyful and fun creations bring a smile to your face. She tells beautiful stories with her playful patterns and colorful images, so it made perfect sense that her brand photos needed to clearly and beautifully tell the story of her business and creative process as well.
Leeza came to Mikifoto + Co needing images for her website and Instagram as well as for promotional materials for trade shows and publicity opportunities. Our objective was to capture Leeza as the face of her brand and to showcase her art in the process.
Tell me your backstory. What past experience do you bring to your current business?
The backstory is simple. I make art. I always have from a very young age. Whether it's designing business materials for others, making a painting for a kid's nursery, illustrating a children's book, creating a logo for a friend's boat or illustrating an album cover, I've always had side hustles that involve different forms of art making. It's just what I do.
I graduated from art school with a degree in Graphic Design and Communication with a specialization in typography.
Why do you do this type of work?
Making art brings me joy. It's what I know how to do and love doing—for both myself and others! I love spending time noodling in my studio, experimenting and creating over and over again and bringing an idea to life, whether for myself or for others.
Where do you find inspiration?
Everywhere! Museums and parks. My family. Nature, animals, and food. Traveling to other countries and cultures. Different environments from rural to inner-city. Colors, shapes, patterns.
I'm always looking and observing. If I see an interesting landscape, shape, or color palette, I'll capture it either through camera or my sketchbook to take back to the studio.
How do you make your customers feel when they work with you?
During the process, I want customers to feel I’m invested in them, and that I understand their needs. They feel taken care of and that they’re in good hands. I want them to feel like we're a team.
Afterwards, I want them to feel inspired, satisfied, happy and confident — and to LOVE what I’ve created for them.
What do you love to do outside of work? Give us a glimpse into your life beyond the business.
I don't have a lot of spare time, so I try to incorporate my interests while I’m on the go or when I’m spending time with my family, This includes traveling, languages (even though I'm not that good!) and fitness. I love visiting beaches, crafting, hiking and camping. One of my goals for 2019 is to free up time to do more of these things with my family at a relaxed pace—though I'll always have a sketchbook with me (that's part of who I am!).
What are your dream photos that you crave for your brand?
Natural, candid images that are well lit and showcase the work I create. Happy images — maybe some silly too. I'm not afraid to make mistakes or laugh at myself, especially when I’m experimenting with art. It's a process of discovery and something I love to do to help flesh out my ideas. That's the beauty of the happy accidents and spontaneity that people respond well to in my work.
