A Birthday Gift from MikiFoto + Co | NJ Brand Photographer

Today, I’m celebrating another trip around the sun. That’s right, it’s my birthday! 🎂🎉🎈

Growing another year older can really bring on the nostalgic feels.

This week, I’ve spent time reminiscing about the humble beginnings of MikiFoto + Co and how far we’ve come together.

And the overwhelming feeling that I have as I take a trip down memory lane?

I’m SO grateful for the incredible women I’ve been lucky to work alongside over the past 10+ years. As we’ve hustled tirelessly to build our businesses, we’ve also built lasting friendships and a supportive community.

There’s no way I could’ve known what was in store for MikiFoto + Co when I launched my photography side hustle just a decade ago.

At the time I was living far away from my family back on the east coast, and I had two young boys. My husband’s career made frequent moves a necessity. I felt lonely and disconnected, so I picked up my camera and started snapping pictures of my children to recreate that connection with my far-away relatives. What started as a hobby and a means to shorten the distance between myself and extended family quickly became something more.

I wanted to learn everything I could about photography. I read every book about the subject that I could get my hands on. Pretty soon, I was taking photos for friends and neighbors, too. It wasn’t long before my children and family photography business was born.

But then, another move took place, and another, from CA to FL to NJ we went. With each move, I had to re-establish my business in a new community. It wasn’t always easy.

I began to feel frustrated and lost. My work looked like everyone else’s, and I wasn’t distinguishing myself from the crowd. I also found myself hiding behind my logo and website, afraid to really show up as the face of my business.

I felt insignificant; I wasn’t rising up and being the leader I knew I was meant to be.

That’s when I made the choice to invest in myself.

I invested in my own professional development and my own brand photography and started showing my face a bit more. I would share my story, my passions and values, and guess what? The response was incredible! That was when everything began to click for me.

I hired a branding coach and got really clear on what my specific message and mission was. I started setting big goals and dreaming big dreams.

It was during this time that I started working with photography clients who were women entrepreneurs like myself.

I loved the challenge of helping these brilliant and passionate business women strategize, build their visual brand, and become the confident face of their business.

My goal was to inspire them to discover their unique story and OWN IT just like I had in my own business.

I guided them through the in’s and out’s of brand storytelling. Through specially curated brand photographs and brand coaching, my clients learned how to show up in their online spaces, stand out from the crowd, and become leaders in their industry.

Today, I work with women all over the country, coaching them as they aspire to build their brands into a solid and recognizable presence.

While I’m still photographing clients, my work has moved beyond the lens to include writing a book, leading in-person workshops and public speaking opportunities, and coaching a mastermind + mentorship program full of brilliant business women. And my small (but mighty) brand has received numerous awards and recognition.

As I celebrate another year spent on this planet, I’m looking forward to what’s in store for the future of MikiFoto + Co, but I’m also looking forward to seeing what strides my clients and readers will take in their own businesses over the next year.

To give each of you a little nudge in the direction of brand photography,  I want to give each of YOU a special gift for my birthday:

A FREE download of The Brand Photography Playbook: The Insider's Guide to Planning Your Photo Shoot and Building a Stand-Out Brand

I created this playbook when I realized just how many questions entrepreneurs had when booking a brand photo shoot. I would hear the same questions and concerns time and time again from my clients.

Where do I start? How do I know who to hire? What to wear? Where to shoot? How to pose? How much should it cost? How do we come up with those drool-worthy photo stories that get all the attention online?

I began to keep a bank of FAQs to be more efficient. Soon, I realized I was sharing enough information to literally write the book on brand photography — so I did!

For today (November 14th) only, you can snag the digital copy of The Playbook and start preparing for your own brand photography shoot. It will get you organized, inspired, help you develop a creative strategy, and assist in planning the logistics and details of the photoshoot.

As I celebrate the day and blow out too many candles on my cake, I feel excited and grateful. The best is yet to come!
